Main Centre Program

What makes the Main Centre unique? Our main centre is the hub of our programming, community and administration. The centre serves as both a residence and education facility that caters to a wide demographic of clientele. Consisting of five homes, a fitness centre, library, commercial kitchen, newly designed resource centre, offices and group spaces, residents and staff are able to create special bonds and harbour a recovery-focused community atmosphere. With a larger population, residents are able to learn how to live, communicate and support others who come from a variety of backgrounds, education, professions and families. The resource centre has been designed as a place of learning and growth. Comprised of one-on-one counselling offices and group rooms a majority of the day-to-day classes and extracurricular programming happens in this space. It also serves as a meeting space for community groups and peer-focused recovery-related activities.

OUR APPROACH
Residents that participate in the main centre program have access to a rotating group of facilitators that provide a unique perspective on the key points of recovery from addiction. Together We Can recognizes that everyone has a different learning style and by having a mixture of viewpoints, residents are able to grasp key concepts and incorporate them into their daily lives. Starting from a 12-step based approach, residents are taught new values and principles and are given the opportunity to learn more about personal accountability. By unpacking the behaviours and emotions associated with their addiction, residents can begin to learn healthy coping methods that will enable them to make better informed and positive decisions in the future. In a private, one-on-one setting, residents work with qualified therapists and addiction counsellors to uncover past traumas, learn how to express their emotions and are given space to freely talk about any issues that may be attributed to their substance misuse.

COMMUNITY BASED APPROACH
Community and peer support is a key concept at the main centre. Residents are encouraged to build relationships with their peers and alumni so they can get the perspective of others who may have experienced the same or similar struggles in their past. This method helps to normalize the confusion and mix of emotions a new person in recovery often experiences. The opposite of addiction is connection and TWC makes every effort to aide a resident in building a supportive network of individuals in recovery that often form into life-time friendships.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Renfrew-Collingwood is primarily a residential area, with good access to nature. Renfrew Ravine Park, which features a natural creek in the Still Creek watershed, is a lovely place to take a walk. Residents have easy access to services and amenities, especially along the Collingwood stretch of Kingsway.
