COVID-19 Response Plan – Updated

COVID-19 Response Plan – Updated

To our valued supporters and community members,

Together We Can has been working diligently since the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak to ensure the health, safety and wellness of each individual involved in our organization. Thanks to the quick response from our management team, TWC is pleased to announce that we have not had a confirmed case in our system. We will continue to take precautionary measures and have already increased protocols to aide in flattening the curve of the virus. The measures we are taking include:

Pre-screening Admissions – Every potential intake must receive a pre-screening admission test with our medical physician, Dr. Kailia. Individuals are not allowed to enter any TWC property until this screening has taken place. With the help of Vancouver Coastal Health, potential intakes exhibiting symptoms are sent for testing.

Social Distancing – We have completely restricted movement of residents, volunteers and staff between houses and programs. Movement within the system must be of an urgent nature and approved by senior management. Unannounced visitors are not permitted on ANY property. Visitations have been suspended for the foreseeable future. All additional programming (family groups, outside group facilitators, etc.) are being held through video conference.

Personal Shopping/Supplies – Residents may require necessities that must be purchased from outside facilities such as clothing, convenience and/or department stores. Each program has appointed a staff member that is the only person approved to leave property and make purchases. Sanitization protocols are required by this staff member when they return to property and before entering the home. Supplies, foods and purchases that are brought onto the property must be individually sanitized and handled by gloved personnel only until the sanitization process is complete.

Staffing – Non-essential staff that have the capability to work from home, are doing so. Staff and volunteers that are required to be present at a program must adhere to the same restrictions and social distancing guidelines as the residents. For those travelling back and forth between home and work, drivers have been scheduled so no one member of our team is using public transit. Staff are not permitted to attend gyms, public facilities or social events. All travel has been suspended.

Food preparation and dining room management – All foods must be handled by the appropriate kitchen staff. Food is pre-served to avoid cross contamination. All silver wear, plates, bowls, etc. are already properly sanitized as per existing protocols.

Cleaning and sanitization – Daily house and common space cleaning has been increased. Doorknobs, light switches and other high touch areas are thoroughly sanitized multiple times a day. Handwashing and/or sanitizing is required when entering the facility. We have increased signage throughout all homes and are educating individuals on proper handwashing technique.

Thank you for your continued support! We encourage you to connect with us at www.facebook.com/twcrecoverylife for more updates and program information. (Information updated April 3, 2020)
