At Together We Can, we are an organization that services each and every need our client might have. Whether it’s medical, therapeutic, detoxification, counselling, dietary, spiritual, psychological, or anything else, we are able to provide the care people need. Each week, we have a General Practitioner who focuses on Addiction Medicine, as well as a Psychiatrist,  come and do a clinic at our Main Centre.

By 2019, as addiction medicine evolved, so did the needs of our clients. It became increasingly obvious that many of our clients required specific care that would be best provided by an Addiction Specialist. Addiction Specialists are Medical Doctors who have completed additional years of schooling to specialize in the field of addiction.

To deliver industry-leading service and continuum of care to our clients, we sought out a partnership with a prominent Medical Clinic.

Royal Oak Clinic and Together We Can

The Relationship

As an organization that has been steadily growing in the Vancouver community for over 25 years, it made sense to enter a service-enhancing partnership with Royal Oak Clinic, a premier Addiction Medicine Practice. Although we operate in different spheres, ours being inpatient treatment and theirs is outpatient medicine, our philosophies are largely aligned; both organizations are committed to delivering lasting results for the clients/patients we serve, ultimately allowing them to live their best lives. Both TWC and ROC have been stalwarts in the British Columbian community that they share, and the fact that we are mere minutes away from each other makes the connection a perfect fit. The impact of both organizations will be significantly enhanced as a result of our partnership.

Royal Oak

Founded in 2007 and lead by Dr. Jay Wortman, the staff of 2 Medical Office Assistants, Counsellor, Social Support Worker, 9 Physicians and 3 Psychiatrists has been playing a significant role in curbing the effects of addiction for those who struggle with it. Serving locally in Vancouver, with 2 additional affiliated clinics, Pacific Oak and Valley Oak, Royal Oak Clinic has been at the leading edge of curbing the opioid epidemic that is ubiquitous in Canada. With full-service care available through BC’s Medical Services Plan (MSP), they are able to help anyone with coverage at no additional charge. To stay at the forefront, ROC is continually optimizing their care and adhering to the best practices of the Addiction Treatment Industry.

The Benefits

By partnering with a local clinic that is constantly being recognized as a leader in the field, Together We Can has positioned our clients to not only receive appropriate help while under our care, but to have access to a full-range continuum of care going forward. Connecting with a practice that is using the latest methods and technology will allow our clients to spend less time off campus, all the while maintaining the same high level of care. Secure videoconference technology will enable our clients to spend more time in group and less time on the road an in waiting rooms.

Royal Oak’s Mission: to provide a safe, caring, and therapeutic encironment for those suffering from addiction disorders. We are committed to improving the lives of individuals living with the effects of addiction through the provision of a range of harm reduction and supportive treatment modalities.

What is a sober coach?

A sober coach provides consistent personalized care guided by sober-living principles within a mentoring relationship. Sober coaching is seen as a valuable tool and harm reduction protocol. A coach helps people who are in the early stages of their recovery to feel supported; they receive guidance from someone who understands their challenges.

How can having a sober coach affect long-term sobriety?

Sober coaching supports long-term sobriety by providing personalized tools for sober living.  Goals of the sober coaching relationship include conflict management practices using real-life scenarios, a spectrum of healthy coping and self-care strategies, building confidence and self-esteem over time, and empowering clients to find the value and motivation to live the life they seek.

What type of individual may see great benefits from having a sober coach?

Individuals who struggle with chronic relapse, and those who want guidance, direction and accountability often see great benefits from working with a sober coach. People who struggle with finding the motivation necessary to live a sober life; as well as, people who want additional support outside of the recovery community may find that a sober coach really helps them move forward in their recovery.

*Sober coaches are available on a case by case basis for a fee.

How can an interventionist help?

Helping someone who is struggling with addiction can be a difficult process. One of the challenges facing family members is how to motivate their loved one to seek treatment, as the idea of change can be intensely frightening for someone in active addiction.

The emotional turmoil and possibly volatile nature of these situations demands the presence of a dedicated professional who can remain calm and facilitate a successful outcome.

We encourage family members to engage the services of a certified interventionist to initiate appropriate changes in the life of someone struggling with addiction.

*Intervention services are available for a fee.
