The Philosophy

Using an evidence-based, biopsychosocial model, our program treats both the addiction and the underlying causes with a client-centric, compassionate treatment approach.

We combine aspects of narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing and group activities to drill down, develop relationships and ultimately develop the trust that is required for lasting change to be possible.

Clients who arrive at Solid Ground are met where they are; we work with clients from all different backgrounds and successfully implement plans that meet the needs of the individual we are helping. There is no rush and no pressure – our staff and here to help. We ensure that the men in our program understand what is at stake and fully buy-in to the approach that we layout.

A Regular Day

We’re pretty relaxed at Solid Ground, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have to follow rules and a schedule. Adjusting is sometimes tricky, but we find that our clients get comfortable following a routine very quickly.

Wake up is between 7 and 7:30 am and it is followed by a breakfast that is prepared by our in-house Red Seal chef.

After you’ve digested your healthy meal, it’s time for for a group check-in or 20 minutes of mindfulness. We’ll then get into the first of our two group lessons for the day. You’ll have time to follow up, ask questions, and everyone will discuss where they’re at, what they’re doing well, and what needs to improve.

We make a point of having our clients reflect on their goals and discover who they are and who they want to be.

Next, a delicious lunch. Seeing as the group of clients at Solid Ground is relatively small (fluctuating between 6 and 8 men), we find that bonds are created and men find solidarity with one another. Often, clients are still friends years after they’ve finished the program.

The afternoon will see you sit through another interative seminar that’ll touch on one of a range of different subjects we get into. In addition to partaking in groups, clients will be assigned a one-on-one Masters Level Counsellor, whom they’ll see once a week, be taken to any appointments they have outside of the facility, do chores and other activities.

Clients receive an hour or two of downtime in the late afternoon. We encourage the men to write in their journal, read a book, do some of their assigned work, speak to their loved ones, or anything else that they need to accomplish.

Just before 5 pm, clients will come together to enjoy dinner. Cooking at Solid Ground has been described as “restaurant quality”, and each client can make special requests for the types of food they particularly enjoy, and obviously any dietary restrictions that they have.

Finally, clients will be taken to an outside meeting. At Solid Ground, we ensure that clients are able to experience Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, SMART Recovery and various other meetings.

Our Promise To You

We ensure you that from day one, your comfort and progress will be our number one priority.

Many of us have been exactly where you are – so rest assured that you are not along. There is nothing you can’t tell us, anything you can’t overcome, and most of all, nothing you can’t accomplish if you fully commit to altering the trajectory of your life.

You aren’t the first person to come through our program and certainly won’t be the last. You are unique, and we know for certain that you can achieve the results that you’re looking for.

It’s time to give it a go. It’s time to give it all that you’ve got – and we will too.

Solid Ground is overseen by the Client Care Supervisor, Max Parfitt.
