Aaron is a drug and alcohol counsellor with Native Court Workers and Counselling Association of British Columbia who works in a partnership with All My Relations. He enjoys working with the men to gain a better understanding of themselves while participating in their red road journey. First, I would like to thank the Stó: lö Nation and sԑmi’a: mu: (Semiahmoo) Nation people for allowing me to be on their traditional and unceded territory. My name is Aaron Mitchell I am originally from Okanagan nation (Vernon). I have Completed my advanced diploma for chemical addiction counselling through Nicola Valley Institute of Technology. I plan to continue on to receive my Bachelor and Masters in this field as well. I have 6 years experience in the field. I have worked at Round Lake Treatment centre and use and caring on my skills from doing group work into my position today. I continue to share the knowledge and teachings I have learnt from previous jobs as well as from my elders and knowledge keepers. I offer Different groups to the men which include, Anger management, triggers, gratitude, shame, grief, relapse prevention and the list goes on. I see some of the men on a one to one basis as well if they have things that they need to work on in a individual setting. I sit on two boards, One being the harm reduction committee for first nations health authority, a two-spirited society (Four Feathers Board).
